Anne-Marie > All I did was pick a flower, hold it way up high and clicked away....

Well you do need some nice weather and a little LR auto tone and punch, a crop here and there
and a 3 hours frustration figuring out how to add a frame via Elements...

but hey, the result is there...at least I like it ;-)

More shots can be seen here Framed Flora
I'm mentioning this because I couldn't decide which one to pick...again :-(

Anne-Marie > Yeah me!

Today marks my 6th month’s anniversary as a non-smoker!

Must be honest, I find the daily challenges more challenging than staying away from the cigarettes LOL

Anyways I couldn’t find anything to fit this day, so this is a shot I made a while ago,
the thingy’s (have no idea how you call them) were part of an ice-cream decoration
from my favorite Greek restaurant here in my town.

Have a great day!

August 12th
Anne-Marie > Spotted this heron at our towns abandoned, degraded and most interesting cemetery we have.

I'm still processing the photo's I took at this cemetery and others I visited the past few weeks

Yesterdays daily was one of the shots I've taken at a cemertery

Today I noticed I forgot to mention it in the caption.

Fotoeffects commented "this shot creates a great mood...of forgotten memories or discarded memories or something of that sort"

I couldn't have said it any better.

Thank you all so much for your comments these past few days, I will catch up sooooooon!!

Have a nice day!

Horrible focus here, I couldn't stop laughing from the (beautiful) funny faces Lotje was making
while hopping on her ...rabbit....I think :-)
Made two treaments to save the photo...
I liked both so much I had to make a "blind" upload to see which made the daily.
As for the other you can see it Here

July 28
Anne-Marie > I had already uploaded this photo for my daily
and just as I was about to hit the caption save button, I looked outside my window.
I could not believe my eyes...after 5 years of frustratingly looking at my "peanut-butter" shrub (clerodendrum)
not really knowing if I wanted to keep it or not,

It decided to bloom!

Me happy ;)

Thank you all for the lovely comments yesterday!

@ Mom4squirrels, 5150 or Fifty for friends is not a foster cat,
guess the question comes from the number she's carrying as name.

James Hill knows his stuff ;) she is named after van Halen's album :)
As for the rest of the info given by James.. it fits her profile ;)

July 10th

p.s. sorry for the confusement....this little kitty is Wookie.

Anne-Marie > MY "NEW" WATERFLOW...

Sorry for shouting, but I've been searching for this one for many of years and my mom
found one for me...me sooo happy!

It's missing a pump, so it's not in working order yet..gives me the oppertunity to take shots from different angles.

Have a nice day everyone!

Anne-Marie > Well here it is…

I promised to show you the $ 126,692 piece of art funded by our town-council.
In front of you, you can see a fried egg, followed by more fried eggs.
In total I think there are about 13 fried eggs covering the town square.
Guess I’m not allowed to judge modern art, but I think this is ridiculous!

Thank you so much for the kind, fun and encouraging words you left as comments
on my 6 days travel in de Harz Dailies.

They mean a lot to me.

Have a nice day!

September 16th
Anne-Marie > Day 6

Well today’s daily was a hard choice, our last day in Germany
we took the long way home and visited several places.

One of them was Bergen-Belsen Memorial.

It’s hard to describe the feeling than came over me that day.
Walking around looking at headstones saying here rests 1000 bodies
the next saying here rests 5000 bodies, un-named graves in the thousands.
The only question I kept asking myself is why?

As I looked around I saw groups of school children, walking about,
girls being pretty boys being macho’s and teacher trying to explain the history of this place.
I realized that I might be one of the last generations that has had the opportunity
to talk to veterans, to talk to survivors.

Next generations might only know the stories through TV, films, books, school education maybe even stories from people like me, but neither they nor I can ever bring over the feelings, the tears even the laughter told by concentration camp survivors, 2nd world war survivors and veterans.
It will be a tough job to keep past, present and future memories like these alive,
but I’m willing to give it a try.

September 15th
Anne-Marie > Day 5

Sheltering in the Brockenhäuschen' a little hut built on top of the Brocken mountain
for tourist who took the time to climb the mountain, which is about 1142 meters high.

No…I took the train ;)

I'm almost finshied uploading all the photos from my 6 days hiking trip in the Harz.
You can find them here. (Yup I miscalculated it was not 5 but 6 days hiking)

Harz, Germany 2008

September 14th
Anne-Marie > Day 4

I spotted this little fella' relaxing against a flowerpot...I couldn't resist.
Photo taken in Wildeman, Harz Germany.

September 13th
Anne-Marie > Day 3

I'd like to introduce you to my “camera-flirty” little niece Fabienne.
Day 3 was meeting the family day, Hamburg Germany.
This photo is totally out of focus, but that made this shot just right I think.
Spend the entire day just taking pictures of nieces and nephew, not 1 single scenery shot..LOL

September 12th
Anne-Marie > Day 2

After hours off walking around, hills up and hills down
(felt more like mountains to me)
we found this little spot overlooking Bad Grund, Harz Germany.
Breathtaking!

@ Art Hill…our hotel was just behind yesterdays daily,
still in the process of sorting them out.
Will post the photos of the hotel,
which we fondly named the “Norman Bates Hotel”,
shortly!

p.s. thank you all for the welcome backs!

September 11th
Anne-Marie > I'm back!!

Out of all the places in Germany, we had to pick the one hotel and village
that didn't have internet or an internet cafe :(
So I'm gonna cheat a little and pick a random daily from each day I was there.
The town we stayed in was called Bad Grund, in the Harz Germany.
We had a great time, glad I bought my hikers!
This daily is strait out of my camera, only 1 treatment, my siggy.
Still sorting out all the photos will let you know when they are uploaded!

September 10
Anne-Marie > New Boots!!

Just three more nights and I’m off for a 5 days hiking trip in the Harz Germany.
I have never been on a hiking trip, so I convinced myself that
I needed good boots for a trip like this…
yeah right, this is a girlie speaking, just in case you haven’t noticed LOL

p.s. did a Color Efex treament on this one, filter called Tonal Treament,
everything set to 100% except the saturation this was 50%

September first.
Anne-Marie > Having a coffee and a cigarette break.

Due to circumstance I couldn’t complete my personal challenge for this month,
but I would like to end the month with the photo that started the whole idea.
It was taken a while ago, but it took me forever to finally get permission
from these two lovely’s to post it as a daily.
Because it’s not focused I gave it some treatments and I just love the turn out!

August 31th
Anne-Marie > He works hard for his honey...

August 28th.
Anne-Marie > Artwork

Sometimes, I have to applaud my towns-council, they come up with great ideas.
This piece of art was made by a graffiti artist,
hired by the town to do his magic there where history lies.
This was made on an electricity-box-thingy, which stands near an old rail track.
I do not know the exact history, but a long long time ago,
there used to be a train route from my home town to a town called Dokkum.
The train would pass some wetlands, which is where I live now…

Most of the railroad is still there, rusty and not “trainable” anymore,
but always remembered fondly by the old folks.
In dedication to this rail track, also called the Dokkumer-lokaaltje,
the council let the artist paint a historical train.
So yes, I applaud the council for this…

But stay tuned, because one of these days I will post a daily of another piece of art,
funded by the council: costs $ 126,692!!!

When I saw that...I declared them utterly nuts!

August 13th
Anne-Marie > Waterworks..

Build by 10 to 11 year olds, just so they can reach a humongous pile of sand!

August 12th
Anne-Marie > They work hard for their money, so hard for their money ;)

I've finally figured out what was wrong with my camera, another lesson learned:
do not play with buttons if you do not know what they are meant for...
Somehow I flipped the mirrors, and learned after a few days
to just press the release button again and all things are back to normal...duh!
Photo treament: Downloaded preset for Lightroom B/W old 1 can be found here :
http://lightroompresets.com/

Off to catch up on many dailies!

August 11th
Anne-Marie > Day 8 of my personal project..ooh well let's make it day 5

Camera still not working.
So here is another cheat from way back when I was a wee lassie,
this shot was taken onboard the Sea Cloud.
Had a little fun with Nik Color Effex and multiple layers in CS3

08-08-08
Anne-Marie > Day 7 of my personal project (or is it day 4?)

Been having some camera problems.
So I have to cheat a little to get my daily's done this coming few days.
Here is my fav neighbour working in her garden.
Photo was taken a few days ago but today I did some layer adjustments,
have no clue what I did but me like...

August 7th
Anne-Marie > Day 3 on my personal challenge.

On my way to work...not a good idea to shoot while driving ;)
Had to do a heavy retouching on this one,
cause once home I found out I had the settings set all wrong :(
Anyways, I like it cause it gives the sunday morning (06:24) driving to work feelin'.
August 3rd
Anne-Marie > Day 2 of my personal challenge.

This is a "piece" of Samual...beloved member of the cleaning-crew!

August 2nd
Anne-Marie > Day 1

I decided that this month would be a theme month.

Anything and everything that is related to the word work!

Considering I have a day off today, I’ll let you into my world
“of what to do if I were not at work today” day.
It was a hard choice…either do tha thing in the daily all day or tackle This
Not telling ;)

August 1st
Anne-Marie > Thought I'll end July with a bunch of unkown flowers.

July 31st
Anne-Marie > Why is it, that once I start playing with my camera
I have a hard time to choosing a daily after I've seen the results?
Again I had to choose with my eyes closed.
I'll bet there are more pretty ones to find here Sigh...
Ooh well...guess tomorrow will be a better day ;)
July thirtiest.
Anne-Marie > My daily for today…

If been so enjoying my Hibiscus tree...
Guess I proved everybody wrong, you can prune it down and still get muchos flowers!
This tree stands in the sun almost all day.
I have another Hibiscus tree next to the house, north side,
and the funny thing about this one,
it decided to bloom in 2 colors this year, and the pinks are out.
I'm still waiting for the whites to open.
Will post as soon as they do.

Thank you for all the nice comments on my “car thingy”.

I did forget to mention that it as a model car, and how big it is?
I have no idea, but here is a shot of the car in real life ;) Mercury
As for the warm treatment was no treatment:
I took the photos with a light on, no flash.
The car stands on a shelf, in a corner, one wall white the other coffee with milk colored,
guess that does make a nice combination.
Only treatment is a slight vignette and cropping.

Ps. The tree was humming with pretty bees, and I made more of these shots.
I chose this one for a daily because I wanted to “show off” all the beautiful flowers.
For more shot’s have a look here: Hibiscus 2008

End of long caption ;)

July 29th
Anne-Marie > Thought I'll give the car thinghy a try ;)

Anne-Marie > Yummy....Lunch!

Yeah...another watercolor :)
Even if it's difficult to make it is so much fun to do!
Here is it's original Original
July 27th
Anne-Marie > This shot and several more were made by accident.
So surprised by this little beauty that I just snapped away.
Made it difficult to choose which could be my daily.
I ask the help of 4 lovely teenagers, shouldn't have done that...
They each agreed on a different shot...sigh.
At the end they unanimously picked this one as best for a daily today.
More can be seen here: Flutterby's
July 26th
Anne-Marie > Today I started to wrestle with Raw and white balances...I gave up!
This daily was made in raw, and I tried to process it,
but guess I need to go back to basics and try to understand what white balance is all about,
and how to handle manual settings in my camera,
before even start to do some real photography with it.
I couldn’t choose between this one and and this one
Last one was kind of fun,
I threw a filter at it in Lightroom and it gave me this effect
without even doing a thing.
Still me like pwetty blue flowers ;)
July 25th
Anne-Marie > There I was, trying to capture more sunlight rays in a glass figurine.
When out if no where this little fella popped in front of my camera.
Imagine my surprise!
Have a wonderful day everybody!
p.s. no gnomes were hurt during this photo-shoot session!
July 24th
Anne-Marie > My compliments to those who are into water coloring!

I always wondered what the fuss was all about
shouldn't be that difficult now should it?
I was proven wrong, it is hard work!
This is my first attempt, and I think it will be my last one
considering I worked 2 days on this one LOL!
Here you can find its original...and also how I made this one happen ;) Original
July 23rd

*Edit*

@ Ceejanerun..I have never read one single book about processing ;)
I just play around with the tools I have and rely on my eyes!
And if I do need some help, Google is a great recourse ;)

Thank you for the compliment on my "glass art"..thanks to all of you!
Anne-Marie > *Edit* Uploaded the wrong photo, should have been this one!

Lesson learned, coffee first than a daily :)

This shot was taken yesterday in the late afternoon.
Mix 3 candle glass holders, a windowsill and bright sunlight,
Lightroom for 100% black and 100% clarity and this is what you get!
July 22nd
Anne-Marie > Today’s daily is one I made over 10 years ago.
I came up with this one mainly because I'm just too lazy to grab my camera
and shoot something today.
I found this one while sorting photo's I made during my time on board the Sea Cloud.
To be honest, I was amazed that I made such a beautiful photo LOL.
I did do some treatments on it, a bit darker and some spot removals.

@Mr. Gefillmore, I wish I could find the words to say something that would have any meaning.
Big virtual hug for you Mr. Gefillmore.

an object that shows more than just the object itself.
Hhhmm...
Thought this one looked like an old grumpy guy.
July 20
Anne-Marie > Mothers...You just gotta lurv them :)

Here I was, being miserable with myself because I’m stuck at home.
Along walks in 2 sunshine’s:
1 my mother and 2 this bouquet of flowers in her hand.
“To cheer you up!”
It worked like a charm!

Took photos from every angle, but I guess the whole bouquet deserves to be a daily,
not just a piece of it!
Have a great weekend everybody!
July 19th
Anne-Marie > Met this little insect while staring out the window looking at the rain.
This is what you do when your home bound I guess.
You start looking for anything in your house just to get a daily done!
Had to add a little clarity and a notch of black.
Thank you for your get well wishes, highly appreciated!

July 18th
Anne-Marie > Found a little energy for a daily today.
These flowers are the results of unkown seeds thrown into a pot :)
Still more are trying to bloom, can't wait what more beauty they will show me.

Anne-Marie > Floating..

I'm beeing naughty today, sneaking out of bed every once in a while just to see the daily's.
Got a funny bug that just keeps sweeping me of my feet :(
Todays daily is one made a few days ago.
This one surprised me, thought I had set everything wrong, yet it turned out so beautiful.

Have a great day everybody!

July 15th
Anne-Marie > Hello...?!?

Had a very busy few days, didn't even come around to visit the daily's :(
Went to the zoo yesterday, finally found time to sort the photo's today.
When I saw this one I just couldn't stop laughing, made it a bit easier to choose :)

July 14th..will try and catch up soon!
Anne-Marie > A girl and her horse.

Every time this girl wanted to walk away, her horse would start to follow her,
she would stop, make a stop sign, and walk away again, and the horse would follow her again.

I don’t know these two, I spotted them in a field,
and I enjoyed watching them so much that I forgot to set
the settings of my camera, that's why this treatment.

Anne-Marie > By request.

Here an oldie from my shoebox, a picture I made while I was on board of the Sea Cloud.

And of course I love to share my old photos with you;
I’m still in the midst of transferring the photo’s from
one hosting provider to Smugmug and one blog to another, so it’s a bit messy.
Here is a link to my blog: http://www.seacloudies.com/snap-shots/

P.s. I found out the mystery behind the tiny little ships invasion on my picnic table.
My sweet neighbor left them there for me.
She knew I’ve been keen on them and she thought it might be a nice subject for my daily’s,
and a nice addition to my “not-yet-started-miniature-boat-collection”.
Bless her heart.
July 9th
Anne-Marie > I've always loved tall ships, historical boats & ships.
I've even been an OS crewmember on a 4 mast Barquentine named Sea Cloud for almost a year.
So imagine my surprise when these two sailed by on my picnic table today!
July 8th
Anne-Marie > I don't know what I did wrong with the original.
I know now that I need to focus more on anything and everything
what my camera can do with me and what I can do with my camera.

So..for my daily a messed up shot, fixed by some software a friend
told me about: Color Efex and loads of TLC.
Here you can see it's original : Original
July 7th
Anne-Marie > Used alotta blacks, clarity and vibrance :)
Here is it's original: Original
July 6th
Anne-Marie > Not a superb photo, but one that I think deserves to be a daily.

The story behind this photo:

“Children should play more outside.
Everyone knows that it is better for them.
There are so many advantages, think only of the physical health of the children.
But what exactly holds back the children to play outside?
Is it the society, computers or is it the parents who stop them from playing outside?”

This thought comes from an action group who calls themselves “Actiongroep Speel”
(action group play)
They have been putting these “little beaches” all over town
trying to get the attention of parents and their children
to go outside and play more often!

July 5th

p.s. hope you all had a great 4th of july and have a good weekend!
Anne-Marie > I was so excited when I spotted this one on my way to another shot I had in mind.
Sad to say, I forgot to take my spare battery with me would have taken more shots :(

Our temperatures went from 64.4 ºF to 91.94 ºF within two days.
It's just too hot to do anything.
This is a shot of our skies for the past two days.

I'm off to find me some shade!

July 2nd
Anne-Marie > All I did was crop and punch.

Anne-Marie > I did stick to making a daily a day.
I just couldn't find the time to post them :(
Here is one I made at work..never can have enough of them lying around :)

Off to do some catching up..
June 30
Anne-Marie > Made this one this morning around 05:37,

Nothing special, but I do love the dramatic colors and it's one of the first
things I see when I'm almost finished with my nightshift, by then I know it's
almost time to go home and get some zzzz's
June 25th
Anne-Marie > My old cigarette machine.
I probably could have done more with this one,
but just couldn't figure out what to do next.
June 23rd
Anne-Marie > Open house Royal Dutch Air force.
It was a very weird day, never could grasp the excitement of being an airplane spotter,
till yesterday.
Those buggers are fast!
Couldn't decide which foto to pick,
so I just closed my eyes and clicked on one for my daily today.
Here is a link to all the big birds flying in the sky Big Birds
and here is a link to the rest I saw there Air Force Misc
June 22nd
Anne-Marie > Due to tiredness, my daily today is a photo made two days ago.
I've been on my feet all day today snapping away at the Air Force base,
and I just didn't have the energy left to sort and pick.
Hopefully I will get them up tomorrow.
Have a nice weekend everybody!
June 21st
Anne-Marie > Baukje...and she's gonna get married!!

I'm absolutely not into "people making pictures" yet.
But still this beautiful lady invited me to join her at the hairdressers today.
Boy was I honoured, and more nervous than the bride herself.
They suggested to make photo's in RAW form, should have stayed away from that.
Because I have no clue yet how to format them into pretty colorful pictures.
Although this one is a bit blurry, it is one of my favorites..
It made me ask myself...where is she with her thoughts right now.

Have a lovely day today Baukje...

June 20th
Anne-Marie > Wookie

There are days that I just would like to be her for a while,
curled up on a cushion, paw over my eyes and just sleep sleep sleep.
June 19th
Anne-Marie > Jelly Beans.

Now these are rare in this part of the world, so if I can get my hands on them..

I just can't resist :(

June 18th
Anne-Marie > A new haircut, no remote control,
so a mirror and handheld camera action it is!
Lightgroomed and PSP it a bit.
Coldtones and eye correction (brought a little green back)
June 17th
Anne-Marie > Still is a big mystery to me, "night photography".
But practice makes perfect they say.
So...As I had nightshifts this weekend, and knew that Sundays wouldn't be that busy,
I brought along my camera and practiced.
Thanks to the boss for letting us have internet, some values were advices from the net.
Some were made up along the way.
I love the outcome of all (mostly the same picture but different settings)
Here some results after 1 1/2 hours practice: Nightscapes
June 16th
Anne-Marie > Todays shot didn't really work out as I hoped it would.
Stronger, it made me realize I still have much to learn.
For futher details of what I'm talking about, have a look here Wildlife
June 13th
Anne-Marie > Had some strange visitors in my back yard today.
They were kind enough to let me make some pictures.
They were so pretty, that is was hard to choose one for a daily.
Here is a link to the rest of the invaders: Duck Invasion
June 12th
Anne-Marie > Meatballs!!
This had to be a daily.
1st I couldn't make meatballs till about a week ago (just didn't know how)
and 2nd I found the hot bubbly butter so mesmerizing that I had to make this photo.
June 11th
Anne-Marie > I don't know why, but this shot makes me think of the elegance of a ballerina
June 10th
Anne-Marie > Felt like playing around with software today.
See what I (and the software) could do with a simple snapshot.
Here are some more results Playing with software
and here are the originals : Originals

Anne-Marie > Another bissy Dizzy day today :)
Here is my old half a barrel, did a pretty good job as a small pond, now it's waiting for a new purpose in life.

Anne-Marie > I just fell in love with these two :)
Part of a collection which you can find here: Visserijdagen Urk
June 7th
Anne-Marie > I so promised myself, no flowers this month.
Still in learning "dusk, night and dawn shots" modus.
I made this one last evening.
Although not really in focus, I kinda liked this one due to it's colors.
Made a little noise reduction action.
Juni 6th
Anne-Marie > As I came home from work I noticed this cutie outside.
The lights from the living room gave her a nice glow.
Time to learn: shutter speeds and such.
So tripod came out and it took me forever to figure out how it works
(not the pod but my camera)
Although it did not capture what I saw, I kinda like the outcome
(with a little help from my lightroom friend)
Here is it's original: Original
2 minutes before June 5th
Anne-Marie > For todays daillies I had this one in mind Dark Clouds
Until I saw this little princess all covered in stucky oily stuff.
Shower time!
I can tell you she wasn't happy with me.
But we are friends again, she's spinning and cleaning me while sitting on my shoulders.
June 3rd
Anne-Marie > Sometimes, they are just to hard to resist! Icecream :)
June 2nd
Anne-Marie > Yesterday we had a street carnival in my town.
As I had to work, I had just a little time to make some snapshot.
For todays daily I chose this one, because it was made in a hurry
and I was surprised it worked out so nice.
For more street carnival pictures you can clickerdeclick here: Street Carnival
June 1st
Anne-Marie > On my way to work yesterday I spotted a tree.
I couldn't get it out of my mind so I hopped on my bicycle today.
Jumped and spinned around the tree and found myself happy with this shot,
although..it's mushrooms were pwetty as well.
Here a link to the tree and its mushrooms: Big tree, pwetty mushrooms

Anne-Marie > Been Awol the past few days due to a stomach flu...baby steps today.

Anne-Marie > Yes..another rose in bloom, this time I can not tell you which type of rose.
I've light"groomed" it a bit, this link brings you to it's original. Original
May 24th
Anne-Marie > What most of you don’t know yet, I own my camera for little than a month now.
Before, I used to play around with an digital compact camera, now I play with the big boys “DSLR”
Yesterday it was time to explore the wonderful world of “the-sports-button-function”
Moving objects
And what better way to practice than to feed hungry birds, let them go crazy and just shoot shoot shoot.
For today’s daily (which was yesterday actually) I picked this one, mostly due to the birdie on the left.
Almost threw this one in the recycle bin.
I’m naming it “Peek-a-boo”
Here is a link to more hungry bird frenzies: Birdies Feeding Frenzies
May 23rd
Anne-Marie > Came home from work...first thing on my mind C O F F E E !!
Don't have time to make a real daily today.
So I decided to share my cup o'coffee in the sun with you guys.
Cheers!
May 21st
Anne-Marie > Well a B I G T H A N K Y O U to all the lovely comments made for Fifty.

She now walks around with a bit more attitude than before :)

Had a lot of fun reading all the comments, needed to Google "DOF" hahaha....

Anyways, would be difficult to top Fifty now, but okay, here's my daily for today...my neighbours old oil lamp.
May 20th
Anne-Marie > Thought I'll introduce you all to one of my 3 cat's : 5150..

May 18th
Anne-Marie > My Glorie de Dijon in bloom

Wish I could get her sent captured as well.

May 17th.
Anne-Marie > We had a holiday weekend past weekend and as the tradition goes over here, we had a 250 km motorcycle tour.
About 3000 motorcycles joined in this year and some follow “the pose” with rare and beautiful cars.
This is one of the cars my camera caught, I didn't like its color so I played around with it for a while, found this more suiting.
I know...it's not a daily for today, but I didn't have the time to go out and find something interesting today.

Might not be posting this coming weekend due to nightshifts and I need my sleep :)

**Dedmanshootn** I'm keeping my eye on her!

May 16th
Anne-Marie > Nothing special as a photo, but very special to me...

I've been waiting for weeks for this rose to finally bloom for the first time.

Proud mama of a Gloire de Dijon, that's me it is :)

Okay I give...a bit too proud maybe :) but I just couldn't wait any longer.

May 15th
Anne-Marie > Couldn't decide which one I liked today.
